The Joplin High School girls golf team, placing three players among the top 10 individuals, won its invitational at Twin Hills on Thursday.
Joplin had 415 strokes to 423 for Nevada, 431 for Mount Vernon No. 1, 466 for Carl Junction, 476 for Ozark, 513 for Seymour and 564 for Aurora.
The top three individuals were Jeanna Brewer of Mount Vernon (85), Natalie Bird of Carl Junction (89) and Emily Tebow of Mount Vernon (91).
But the Eagles got fourth from Chelsea Damer (93), eighth from Lauren Johnson (103) and ninth from Krystal Beecher (108).
Plus, Joplin’s Marnie Kersey shot 111 to just miss claiming a medal (the top 10).
“Overall, I’m very happy with our entire team,” Joplin coach Shannon Rhinehart said. “We’re off to a good start with a tournament win also at Nevada.”
Beecher, Rhinehart said, is playing golf for the first time on the high school team.

Neosho nudges Joplin
NEOSHO, Mo. — The Wildcats, hiking their record to 2-0, clipped Joplin 26-24, 25-23 in a nonconference outing.
Neosho leaders included Kayln Vlasin (15 kills), Lorelei Snow (six kills, 11 assists),.Rhett Rook (nine assists) and Ashley Bartkoski (five blocks).
Joplin (0-2) received nine points, 4 kills and eight digs from Jesse McMullen.
The Eagles also got seven assists from Ally Worley, six digs from Taylor Sharp and six kills from Emilee Dailey.
Cougars romp
The College Heights Cougars rolled past the Carthage Tigers 25-13, 25-11 to pick up their first win of the season.
College Heights (1-1) got 12 service points, including four aces, from Missy Sterling while Kelsi Bodine had five kills and Ashley Sauer added 15 assists. Hannah Myers had 12 digs while Brittany Eppright, Konner McIntire and Hannah Braeckel each had four blocks.
Carthage (1-1)was led by Alex Giett, who had four kills and eight digs. Kayla Tarwater had four kills, Lindsay Terry had nine assists and Kori Gregory added eight digs.
College Heights plays Reeds Spring at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Branson tournament while Carthage is at Parkview on Monday.
Jasper spikers triumph
JASPER, Mo. — The Eagles, dropping McAuley Catholic to 0-2, claimed a 25-17, 25-19 victory.
The winner, which was opening its schedule, was sparked by Candice Talbot’s 13 kills, Ivy Sisseck’s five digs, Marisa Bausinger’s four blocks and Megan Stump’s 12 assists.
Cards sweep
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Webb City Cardinals moved to 2-0 with a 31-29, 25-18 win over the Parkview Vikings.
Cheyna Crough had 22 assists for the Cardinals while Meghan Melton had two aces and Kaitlin Jaeger added 19 kills.
The Cardinals are at McDonald County on Tuesday.

Carthage strikers win
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — The Tigers, opening their season, defeated Carl Junction 2-0 on two second-half goals.
Christian Solis, off a corner kick, and Cole Beckham’s conversion of a penalty kick lifted the Tigers. Carthage statistics had it with a 25-3 advantage in shots.
Carthage opens its Central Ozark Conference schedule by visiting Neosho at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
