Hudson hits record 35th career home run

NIXA, Mo. — Webb City’s Nicole Hudson became Missouri’s career prep home run leader as the Cardinals decked Nixa 7-1 Thursday in a Central Ozark Conference softball game.
Hudson slugged a bases-empty shot over the center-field fence in the first inning for her 35th career homer. She also contributed two doubles, including a two-run shot in the seventh inning, to finish with three hits and three runs batted in.
Brooklyn Farrell scored three runs and contributed three singles to Webb City’s eight-hit attack, and Lauren Jones hit a double.
Hudson picked up the complete-game victory, allowing four singles and striking out 10.
Webb City (7-1-1, 1-0 COC) plays Tuesday at Ozark.
Joplin 8, Camdenton 2
CAMDENTON, Mo. — The Joplin Eagles got a pair of big two-out hits in the first two innings and ran away from the Camdenton Lakers in an Ozark Conference matchup.
Freshman Mariah Sanders had a two-out, two-run single in Joplin’s three-run first inning, and Mary Ann Greer added a two-run single with two outs in the second to give the Eagles (4-8, 2-1 Ozark Conference) a 5-0 lead.
“That’s something we’ve been lacking,” Joplin coach Kirk Harryman said. “We haven’t been getting the big hits, but we got them tonight.”
Joplin pitcher Arlisa Arwood allowed just two hits while striking out six and walking one.
“Arlisa pitched well in adverse conditions,” Harryman said. “It was raining the entire game.”
Joplin hosts Hillcrest on Monday.
Lamar 9, College Heights 6
Sarah Rawlings allowed four hits and struck out 10 as the visiting Tigers evened their record at 2-2.
Ashia White had two of the eight hits for Lamar in the contest at Four Seasons. CHC junior right-hander Mallory Green struck out four.
CHC (3-3), which scored four runs in the third inning, received three hits and two runs scored from shortstop Rachel Brehm.
VOLLEYBALL
CHC beats Sarcoxie
College Heights Christian School opened its Spring River Valley Conference schedule by beating visiting Sarcoxie 25-7, 25-6.
Konner McIntire had five kills and two aces for the Cougars (4-3-1). Other leaders included Ashley Sauer with eight assists, Keli Moore and Hannah Myers with four digs apiece and Hannah Snow with 11 points.
Sarcoxie (0-2, 0-2 SRVC) received eight assists from Hillary Phipps.
Neosho hits 5-0
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — The Neosho Wildcats moved to 5-0 with a 25-19, 25-17 win over the Carl Junction Bulldogs.
Kayln Vlasin had nine kills and four blocks for Neosho while Rhett Rook added 11 assists.
Carl Junction got four kills from Holly Boles while Katelyn Joyner had four aces and 10 assists.
Carl Junction (3-4-1) is at home against College Heights on Monday while Neosho plays Fayetteville, Ark.
Lebanon stops Joplin
The visiting Yellowjackets spoiled the Eagles’ Ozark Conference opener with a 25-6, 25-7 victory in Kaminsky Gymnasium.
Leaders for Joplin, 0-4 overall, included Emma Hays (five digs), Autumn Lewis (two assists) and Callie Munson (four digs).
Golden City triumphs
Heather Moore had eight kills and seven digs as the visitor rallied to beat Thomas Jefferson 13-25, 25-22, 25-15 in a nonconference match.
Hannah Probert added seven assists and Sarah Stump 12 points for Golden City.
Thomas Jefferson will host its annual tournament starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
SOCCER
Joplin 9, Monett 2
Daniel McDonald, Max Duncan and Parker Maher combined for all the goals as Joplin defeated Monett in a nonconference match.
The Eagles (3-1) grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first 14 minutes. Parker Maher ignited the Eagles with a goal after just two minutes on an assist from Geovanni Lara. McDonald then scored twice five minutes apart, and Max Duncan scored for a 4-0 advantage.
George Valdarama and Mauricio Zrujillo scored for Monett to cut the halftime margin to 4-2 before Joplin tallied five goals in the final 22 minutes.
McDonald finished with four goals, Duncan kicked three and Maher had two plus two assists.
The Eagles outshot the Cubs 33-8. Joplin goalkeeper John McDermid had two saves.
“We got our passing going early and had a lot of opportunities,” Joplin coach Ed Miller said. “After that it seemed like we got stagnant.
“The second half it took us a while to get into our rhythm, and then we wore them down a little bit. I thought our defense did a good job shutting them down for the most part.”
Joplin entertains Neosho on Monday, starting with the junior varsity match at 4:30 p.m.
CJHS nips Cards
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Brandon Kennedy and Nii Abrahams scored goals and the Carl Junction Bulldogs erased a 1-0 deficit to beat the Webb City Cardinals 2-1.
Webb City took its lead on Isaiah Cadena’s goal in the 25th minute. Kennedy scored on an assist from Nathan Wilson with two minutes left in the first half to tie the game before Abrahams’ goal — on an assist from Curt Herron — in the 52nd minute gave the Bulldogs the lead.
GOLF
Joplin places second
NIXA, Mo. — The Joplin Eagles finished second in the nine-team Ozark Tiger Golf Tournament at Fremont Hills Country Club.
“We’re very pleased,” Joplin coach Shannon Rhinehart said. “This is a really strong tournament, and we’re excited to have played well.”
Joplin was led by Chelsea Damer, who finished third overall with an 82, behind only Lindsey Johnson and Meg Alunno, both from Kickapoo.
Kickapoo was first in the team results, shooting a 362. Joplin shot 388 and Marshfield finished third with a 403.
“It was our goal to stay under 400,” Rhinehart said. “So we’re pretty pleased with how we played.”
Lauren Mehalic shot a 99 for Joplin while Lauren Johnson finished with a 100. Marnie Kersey (107) and Krystal Beecher (116) rounded out the Eagles’ scoring.
“That was Lauren Mehalic’s best score,” Rhinehart said. “She played really well today.”
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday with a home match against Carl Junction and Girard at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club.
TENNIS
Cavaliers prevail
Thomas Jefferson rolled past Mount Vernon 9-0 at Millennium Tennis and Fitness Center.
The closest singles match was at No. 4 as the Cavaliers’ Pati Schoenfield beat Kirsten Roach 8-4. Rebecca Humphrey, Shannon Clark, Samantha Kemp, Cayla Burnett and Rachel McNally joined Schoenfield as double winners.
The Cavaliers, now 1-2, will host Neosho on Monday.
