AURORA, Mo. — Joplin High School collected its first girls’ volleyball victory of the season in topping Lamar 25-23, 25-23 but didn’t advance out of pool play with two losses in the Aurora Tournament on Saturday.
The Eagles also lost to McDonald County (25-18, 25-22) and El Dorado Springs (25-17, 25-23) in the Red Pool of the 12-team tourney.
Overall leaders for Joplin included Alli Worley (15 points, 17 assists), Amber Harbin (12 points, seven kills), Ali Stauffer (13 kills, 10 blocks), Kalley Jewsbury (16 assists), Kaleigh Myers (12 points, 21 digs), Lindsey Hamm (19 digs), Callie Munson (14 digs), Jordyn Nolan (seven kills) and Jessica Hill (six kills). Joplin, 1-8, resumes Tuesday with a nonconference match at Webb City.
SOFTBALLWheaton 12, McAuley 4
Sam Pierce garnered three hits and Stacia Holmes had a pair as the Bulldogs hiked their record to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Ozark 7 Conference.
Wheaton pitcher Brooke Forgey limited the Warriors to seven hits in the game at Missouri Southern.
Kristin Wilmes had three hits for McAuley. Arielle Santillan had a triple among two hits.
Two wins for Welch
CLAREMORE, Okla. — The Wildcats posted a pair of 1-0 victories — Kalleigh Chrz tossed a no-hitter in each contest — at the expense of Pryor B 1-0 and Claremore B
Chrz struck out 15 and walked one in the first game against Pryor. Sierra Hankins drove in Chrz with the only run in the first inning.
Chrz, against Claremore B, struck out 14 and didn’t walk a batter. Hankins, who had two hits, also drove in Chrz in the fourth inning.
Lamar wins title
EL DORADO SPRINGS, Mo. — Lamar defeated Nevada 6-5 to win the championship of the El Dorado Springs Tournament.
