Duncan’s two goals lead Eagles past Neosho

Joplin High School hiked its soccer record to 4-1 by beating visiting Neosho 5-0 in a nonconference match on Monday night.

The Eagles, who return to Ozark Conference play tonight by entertaining Hillcrest, led 3-0 at the half on a goal by Parker Maher and two by Max Duncan.

Eli Welch and Lucas Kemper had goals in the second half for the Eagles.

Maher, Welch and Geovanni Lara added assists for Joplin.

Joplin statistics had it with a 36-5 advantage in shots. Jonathan Shumaker had 11 saves for the Wildcats and John McDermid three for Joplin.

McDermid posted his third shutout of the campaign.

SOFTBALL

Joplin 4, Hillcrest 0

The Eagles supported the pitching of junior Arlisa Arwood with an 11-hit attack.

The right-handed Arwood limited the visiting Hornets to four hits in the Ozark Conference contest. She struck out four and walked none. Fifty-eight of her 81 pitches were strikes.

Second baseman Mary Ann Greer had three hits for Joplin. Center fielder Taylor Costley added two hits and catcher Kimmy Matejcek rapped a two-run triple in a clinching, three-run sixth.

Joplin, which opens in the Adair (Okla.) Tournament on Thursday, boosted its record to 3-1 in the Ozark and 5-8 overall.
