Joplin High School hiked its soccer record to 4-1 by beating visiting Neosho 5-0 in a nonconference match on Monday night.
The Eagles, who return to Ozark Conference play tonight by entertaining Hillcrest, led 3-0 at the half on a goal by Parker Maher and two by Max Duncan.
Eli Welch and Lucas Kemper had goals in the second half for the Eagles.
Maher, Welch and Geovanni Lara added assists for Joplin.
Joplin statistics had it with a 36-5 advantage in shots. Jonathan Shumaker had 11 saves for the Wildcats and John McDermid three for Joplin.
McDermid posted his third shutout of the campaign.
SOFTBALL
Joplin 4, Hillcrest 0
The Eagles supported the pitching of junior Arlisa Arwood with an 11-hit attack.
The right-handed Arwood limited the visiting Hornets to four hits in the Ozark Conference contest. She struck out four and walked none. Fifty-eight of her 81 pitches were strikes.
Second baseman Mary Ann Greer had three hits for Joplin. Center fielder Taylor Costley added two hits and catcher Kimmy Matejcek rapped a two-run triple in a clinching, three-run sixth.
Joplin, which opens in the Adair (Okla.) Tournament on Thursday, boosted its record to 3-1 in the Ozark and 5-8 overall.
Kylie Jones belts pair
WEBB CITY, Mo. — Catcher Jones had two home runs as Webb City hiked its record to 2-0 in the Central Ozark Conference and 8-1-1 overall by beating Branson 7-6.
Freshman right-hander Laney Kneib, who survived a three-run seventh inning, hurled the distance for the Cardinals. She struck out three and walked one.
Jones had a three-run homer in the third and a solo shot — the eventual winning run — in the sixth. Nicole Hudson added a two-run homer for Webb City in the fourth.
Callie Beaver and Morgan Coleman each added two hits for the Cardinals.
Susan Stevens had three hits for Branson. Mallory Jansen and Brianna Ford had two apiece in a 10-hit attack.
McDonald County prevails
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — The Mustangs, climbing to 9-3, received four-hit pitching from Kaily Harvey in stopping Carl Junction 3-0 in a nonconference test.
Harvey, who struck out six and walked three, was backed by left fielder Ashton Pratt’s two hits and one run scored.
Losing hurler Jessica Sullivan allowed five hits, struck out nine and walked none. Carl Junction slipped to 7-3.
VOLLEYBALL
McAuley wins first
SARCOXIE, Mo. — McAuley Catholic won its first girls volleyball match in five outings with a 25-16, 25-18 win against host Sarcoxie.
Jae Stephens led the winning Warriors with five kills and nine assists. Sarcoxie slipped to 0-3.
McAuley travels to Everton for a 6 p.m. varsity-only match today.
Carl Junction triumphs
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Katelyn Joiner had nine service points, two aces,13 assists and five blocks to spark Carl Junction past College Heights.
The Bulldogs won 25-20, 25-16 to hike their record to 4-4-1.
