Columbus, riding a two-game winning streak, continues Southeast Kansas League play tonight at Fort Scott.
Kickoff is at 7 at Frary Field.
The Titans (3-1) took command in the second half last week for a 20-7 victory at Coffeyville.
“We were very sloppy the first half,” Titans head coach Dan Grundy said. “Then we came out the second half, outscored them 20-0 and beat them pretty handily.”
Fort Scott (2-2) is coming off a 46-28 victory over Labette County. Last season the Titans beat the Tigers in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
“Fort Scott is always one of the opponents you measure yourself against,” Grundy said.
“I think our kids are doing a great job. They’ve bought in to what the new coaching staff is telling them. I commend my coaches ... they are doing a great job. Success breeds success, and we’re starting to see a little bit of it.”
McAuley vs. Catholic
McAuley Catholic and Springfield Catholic collide tonight at Missouri Southern’s Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
Catholic has beaten the Warriors the last two years, including a 28-26 decision two years ago.
The Fighting Irish dominated last year’s game over an injury-decimated Warrior team.
McAuley (2-3) overcame a 14-0 deficit to beat Diamond 28-22 last week.
The Warriors will be without senior lineman Jerome Davis, who suffered a knee injury in practice this week. Early indications are he could return in time to play part of the district slate.
Carthage at Branson
The matchup pairs two of the remaining three undefeated teams in the Central Ozark Conference Large Division.
One week ago the Tigers downed Neosho 55-27 in a nonconference game, and Branson defeated Willard 33-7.
Carl Junction at East Newton
The Bulldogs and Patriots are two of the three teams in the Big 8 Conference with only one loss, trailing Cassville and Monett.
Carl Junction, after a 4-0 start, is looking to rebound from last week’s 48-2 loss to Monett.
East Newton returns to league play after a 41-20 decision over Pierce City one week ago.
