Liberal backs too much for McAuley

LIBERAL, Mo. — Jordan Meadows and Eathan Bray proved to be a load for McAuley Catholic, with the Warriors dropping a 46-28 decision to the Liberal Bulldogs on Friday night in a nonconference prep football game.
Bray had two of his three touchdowns in the first half to spark Liberal to a 28-14 halftime lead. He carried the ball 27 times and gained 257 yards.
Meadows, who scored one TD each half, had 248 yards on 20 carries.
McAuley quarterback Austin Metts completed 18 of 33 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns, with two of those going to Kevin O’Keefe in the second quarter.
Metts also threw a 51-yard scoring strike to Sam Maher in the third quarter. The Warriors’ last TD in the final period came on Brant Russell’s 24-yard run.
O’Keefe caught 11 passes for 127 yards.
Liberal, 5-2, begins District 1-5 competition next Friday, entertaining Greenfield.
McAuley opens District 1-4 action with a game against Sarcoxie at Missouri Southern’s Hughes Stadium.
