NEOSHO, Mo. — Labette and Crowder decisively won opening basketball games in the Crowder Classic on Friday night.

Labette defeated Rend Lake (Ill.) 80-56 before the Lady ’Riders trimmed Meramec 79-58.

Today’s schedule is Labette vs. Meramec at 1 p.m. and Crowder vs. Rend Lake at 3.

Crowder, 2-0, received 16 points apiece from 6-foot freshmen Jaimee Shields of McDonald County and Khyrstyn Brumley of Ozark. Crowder coach Tina Robbins used all 15 players.

Kasei Evans scored 18 points for Meramec. Crowder was ahead 39-19 at the half.

Labette, which led 39-29 at the half, was paced by Kellindra Zachery’s 20 points and Satoria Bell’s 18. For Rend Lake, Cierra Dotson tallied 21.

VOLLEYBALL

Lions rebound

HAYS, Kan. — Missouri Southern recovered from a 2-1 deficit and rallied past Fort Hays in MIAA action.

The Lions won 20-25, 26-24, 24-26, 25-18, 15-12. They are 13-17 overall and 6-10 in the MIAA.

Maria Weller led the Southern offense with 15 kills and a .364 hitting average, and also added four blocks. Freshman Renee Rheinecker had 15 kills and Neosho’s Amber Heiskell had 12 blocks and five kills.

Jeanna Feldmann had nine kills and a team-high 15 digs, Daphne Merrick contributed 42 assists and 11 digs.

The Lions play at 7 p.m. today at No. 7-ranked Emporia State.
