Lions get soccer win
in two overtimes
Nikki Llewellyn concluded her soccer playing career at Missouri Southern in fine fashion Sunday, booting the winning goal in the second overtime.
The senior, playing on Senior Day at Hal Bodon Field, took an assist from Jentri White in the 102nd minute to break a 1-1 tie and give the Lions their sixth overall win in 19 outings and fourth in 16 MIAA contests.
Southern received its first goal from Brianna McKenzie two minutes into the match. Sarah Anderson scored at the 36:03 mark for the Hornets.
The Lions held a 9-8 shots-on-goal edge, with Llewellyn getting the high of six. Goalkeepers Randi Russell, Southern, and Jennifer Stillmock each had seven saves.
Seward County romps
past Crowder women
PARK HILLS, Mo. — Crowder slipped to 1-2 Sunday in women’s basketball with a 90-50 loss to Seward County (Kan.) in the Mineral Area Classic.
Deidre Brown netted nine points to lead Crowder, which will travel to Poteau, Okla., on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game against Carl Albert.
Basketball officials
to hold meeting
The Joplin Basketball Officials Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Commons Area at the new Carl Junction Junior High.
Steve Gannaway and Kevin Rhinehart will discuss mechanics of 3-person crews at the high school level.
Craig Lynch and Darrell Waggoner will discuss the mechanics for a two-person crew.
