sports@joplinglobe.com The Ozark Christian College men’s basketball team improved to 3-0 by pulling away in the second half for a 90-78 win against Faith Baptist Bible in the Manhattan Christian Classic on Friday. The OCC women, however, dropped a 49-47 decision to Faith Baptist Bible of Ankeny, Iowa. Today, the OCC women (1-2) play St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 11 a.m. and its men tackle Lincoln (Ill.) Christian at 12:45 p.m. The OCC men, who led only 51-50 at the half, shot markedly better from the field (50.8 percent to 42.6) and from the foul line (74.3-67.9). Austin Weece sparked OCC by scoring 17 points in just 16 minutes on 8-for-9 accuracy from the floor and 1-for-1 from the line. Clancy Allmoslecher, who was 9 of 10 from the line, matched Weece’s scoring output and Steven Tackett added 16. Tyler Betz scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace Faith Baptist Bible. The Faith Baptist Bible women were powered by Lindsie Poorman. She tallied 17 points, snared 16 rebounds and had eight steals. OCC shot just 26.1 percent from the field and 47.4 from the foul line. It got 13 points from Chelsea Sneed (who was 6-for-12 from the floor), 12 from Darby Todd (6-for-11) and 11 from Melea Cook. PSU women bow DENTON, Texas — Pittsburg State’s women’s basketball team was defeated by Tarleton State 75-46 in the opening game of the DFW Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premier at Texas Woman’s University. Senior DePrice Taylor led the Lady Gorillas with nine points. Senior Maya Onikute and junior Laura Glenn each scored seven. Senior Nicole McCombs led the team with six rebounds. Onikute and Glenn each had five rebounds. Tarleton’s Brittnie Haley scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds. JoAnne Jones scored 12 points, while Sonya Sundberg and Shelby Adamson each scored 10.
