REPUBLIC, Mo. — Carl Junction, behind Joseph Fauvergue’s 26 points, wrapped up fifth place Saturday in the Republic boys prep basketball tournament.
The Bulldogs defeated West Plains 73-49, Rogersville clipped Nixa 43-38 for third place and Hillcrest, on a last second shot, nipped the host Tigers 56-53 for the championship.
Carl Junction jumped out to a 43-26 halftime bulge. Also in double figures for the Bulldogs were Justin Garrison with 16 and Paden Bennett with 11. Caleb Walker led the Zizzers with 12.
Cavaliers fall
PIERCE CITY, Mo. — Top-seeded East Newton dominated third-seeded Pierce City for the championship, while fourth-seeded Diamond toppled seventh-seeded Thomas Jefferson for third and fifth-seeded Verona nipped sixth-seeded Wheaton for consolation in the Pierce City Boys Tournament.
The Patriots rallied from a 31-27 halftime deficit to win the title 62-45. The Wildcats, who led 17-12 at intermission, went on for a 41-26 decision against Thomas Jefferson, while Verona, despite being outscored 16-9 in the fourth quarter, edged Wheaton 42-40.
Jon Ringstaff had 19 points and Joe Batson 17 to lead the way for East Newton, while Dietrick Sooter’s 11 were high for Pierce City.
Tim Enayati netted 24 points to spark the Wildcats against Thomas Jefferson, which was led by Jordan Stauffer’s 11.
Zack Smith led Verona with 17 points and Sean Crane topped Wheaton with 15.
