Tight points races develop at Monett Speedway

Monett Speedway officials have scheduled a regular weekly stock car racing program for tonight with gates opening at 5 p.m., hot laps at 7 and races at 7:30.

Close points races are being waged in three of the seven classes at the 3/8-mile clay track.

Example No. 1: Bobby Pearish is atop the USRA modified standings with 326 points to 313 for Brent Holman. Also, Jackie Dalton has 309, Dairan Hendrix 307 and defending champion Johnny Bone Jr. 295.

Example No. 2: Justin Wells leads Shane Essary 340-337 in the DLRA late model class.

Example No. 3: Russell Niehoff and Lonnie Muhlbauer are 1-2 in the pro-4 class with 425 and 413, respectively.

Other leaders are John Coats (factory stock), Rick McNally (pure stock), Kyle Lebow (Midwest Modz) and J.C. Morton (USRA modified).

Wells and Essary ironically have Aurora addresses and Wells’ son, Cole, is sixth in late model points.

Admission prices are $12 and $5. A pit pass is $25. The track phone is (417) 236-0600.

Terry Phillips places second

HUMBOLDT, Kan. — Springfield’s Phillips earned $2,200 with his effort in the United States Modified Touring Series at the Humboldt Speedway on Friday night.

The win was worth $4,000 for Stormy Scott of Las Cruces, N.M. Scott stormed to the front from a 16th-place starting position.

Scott Daniels, Humboldt, finished ninth after starting on the pole.

The 28-car main event also included sixth-place Johnny Bone Jr., No. 8 Al Purkey, No. 12 Kelly Shryock and No. 21 John Allen.

Shryock, Phillips and Allen were among the heat winners.
