All-star basketball games set Sunday at Colgan

Many of the best high school basketball players in Southeast Kansas will compete in the 2014 Sports Headquarters All-Star Game on Sunday at St. Mary’s-Colgan Fieldhouse in Pittsburg.

The girls game will tip off at 1 p.m., and the boys game will follow. The event will include boys and girls 3-point contests, as well as a slam dunk contest.

The annual all-star games will feature the top 20 girls and the top 20 boys senior players as selected by area coaches. The SEK, CNC, Three Rivers, Tri-Valley and Pioneer leagues are all represented.

Past Southeast Kansas all-star games have included players who went on to compete in NCAA Division I, as well as Division II, Division III, NAIA and the junior college levels.

“The event features the best high school basketball players in the area, and we are privileged to help in putting it together,” ESPN 100.7 FM program director Mike Snow said in a news release. “This game gives players a chance to suit up on more time in high school before moving on to the next level.”

Tickets for the games are $5 and can be purchased at the door the day of the event. Area high school coaches will be admitted for free.

Girls Team A will feature Jayhawk-Linn forward Carly Jackson, Coffeyville guard/forward Devin Cosper, Independence guard Tyra Welch, Southeast guard Amy Martin, Fort Scott guard/forward Katren Rienbolt, Pleasanton guard Autumn Secrest, Labette County forward Brynn Green, Uniontown forward Jessica Farra, Caney Valley forward Makenzie Vining and Frontenac forward Bailey Flora.

Girls Team B consists of Columbus guard Katrina Froebe, Frontenac guards Haley Wilson and Ryleigh McCartney, Fredonia forward Danielle Shay, Pittsburg forward Bethanne Elliott, Independence guard Anna Hignight, Southeast forward Rachel Bole, Cherryvale guard Josie Reilly, Erie guard Bret McGuire and Fort Scott forward Jillian Lattimer.

The Boys Team A roster consists of Independence guard/forward Dominique Thornton, Oswego guard/forward Tag Oldham, Northeast guard J.T. Richardson, Coffeyville guard/forward Tucker Thompson, Pittsburg guard Spencer Massoth, Galena guard Devin Newman, Southeast guard/forward Seven Uber, Chetopa guard Austen Sanders, Frontenac guard Brett Macary and St. Paul forward Austin O’Brien.

Boys Team B features Northeast forward Noah Popejoy, Humboldt guard Hunter Murrow, Iola guard Trent Latta, Riverton guard Chandler Underhill, Columbus guard Aaron Bigando, Eureka Logan Hayes, Labette County guard Lee Reliford, Coffeyville guard James Newton, Crest forward Brock Ellis and Caney Valley forward Kenny Brown.
