LAWRENCE, Kan. —
Missouri Southern’s Jayce Thomas ranks third after the first day of the unseeded college decathlon at the Kansas Relays.
Thomas, a sophomore from Blue Springs, has 3,347 points after five events, trailing leader John Cord of Simpson (Iowa) by just 43 points. Dan Simon of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is in second place, 32 points ahead of Thomas.
Thomas won the high jump (6-5.50) and took second in the long jump (21-3). His other marks were 11.74 seconds in the 100 meters, 54.33 in the 400 meters and 36 feet, 3 inches in the shot put.
The final five events will be held today, starting at 8:30 a.m.
Webb City 5, Branson 2
BRANSON, Mo. — Asia Bemo collected three goals and two assists to spark Webb City past Branson on Tuesday.
Bemo’s first goal snapped a 1-1 tie at 13 minutes, and she scored 14 minutes later off a pass from Sydney Philpot. Bemo’s third goal came 13 minutes into the second half, assisted by Brittany Thurlo.
Kaylee Reynolds tallied the Cardinals’ other two goals — the first in the third minute and the second at 34 minutes to give Webb City a 4-2 halftime lead.
Webb City (3-7) owned a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal. Cardinals goalkeeper Hunter Henson recorded five saves.
The Cardinals play at 5 p.m. today at Monett.
