Pittsburg State basketball sweeps doubleheader

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Pittsburg State University’s basketball teams came away with a road sweep over Lincoln University on Monday.

In the women’s game, the Gorillas opened up on a 6-0 run and never looked back on the way to a 76-64 win, dropping Lincoln to 3-10 overall and 0-6 in the MIAA.

Three Gorillas scored in double figures, led by Lizzy Jeronimus’ 16. Jeronimus also pulled down eight rebounds to lead the team.

PSU moves to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

A dominant stretch midway through the first half propelled Pittsburg’s men to an 87-72 victory.

The Gorillas went on a 16-0 run, keeping Lincoln scoreless for more than five minutes, in the first half. Pitt held a 41-29 advantage at halftime behind a 56 percent shooting attack.

The win was PSU’s first in conference play this season, and the men now stand at 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA. Lincoln is well off the pace in the conference at 2-12 overall, 0-6 MIAA.

Devon Branch and Jake Bullard both scored 16 for the Gorillas, who also got 10 points each out of Sam Pugh, Denton Hays and Josiah Gustafson.

Next up for Pittsburg State is a home doubleheader against Central Missouri on Thursday.
