Prep roundup: Joplin tennis opens with win

Joplin High School opened its tennis season by beating visiting Nevada 9-0 on Thursday at the Joplin Athletic Complex.

The Eagles, making their coach Ed Ingle’s debut a success, received an 8-0 victory from Laela Zaidi at No. 1 singles against Jessica DeCocq.

Zaidi and Madison Erwin defeated DeCocq and Megan Payne 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Other singles winners for Joplin were Sydney Butler, McKenzie Erisman, Suma Ancha, Gretchen White and Erwin. Butler-White and Erisman-Ancha also won in doubles.

Carl Junction 9, Monett 0

The Bulldogs, with Kenzie Kuykendall beating Hannah Pitts 8-3 at No. 1 singles, improved to 2-0 in duals.

Kuykendall and Madison Adrian posted an 8-3 win against Pitts and Brianna Morris at No, 1 doubles in the match at Missouri Southern.

Adrian, Kaylie Hawkins, Cheyenne Pickett, Lexi Deines and Hailey Gilbreath also won in singles for Carl Junction. Hawkins-Pickett and Deines-Gilbreath also won in doubles.


Rogersville tops Cards in double overtime

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Rogersville scored in the 69th minute and again in the second overtime to knock off Webb City 4-3 in a season-opening match.

Webb City led 3-2 after Luke Dalton’s second goal of the game in the 65th minute, but Rogersville’s Ty Stevens found the back of the net four minutes later. After a scoreless overtime period, Tucker Brown scored his second unassisted goal to give Rogersville the win.

Nick Cook had Webb City’s other goal, which came unassisted in the 45th minute.
