Lions earn many provisionals at Missouri Invitational

Missouri Southern sophomore Jeff Fraley won the 200 meters and picked up a fourth place finish in the 60 as the Lions secured several provisionals at the Missouri Invitational on Friday at the Hearnes Center.

Fraley’s time of 21.96 was one-third of a second from an automatic qualifying mark in the 200. Anthony Price took sixth in the 200 and the 400.

Dustin Green, Evan Moore and Seth Hackney placed 2-3-4 in the shot put, and all three picked up a provisional mark. Green’s throw of 52-1 1/4 beat Moore’s best throw by two inches. Moore also was fifth in the weight throw.

Michael Juergens placed fourth in the pole vault at 15-7 1/4, which was good for a provisional. Brady Melugin was sixth.

Darion Boure earned a provisional in the triple jump, placing third at 47-11 3/4.

The Lions also won the 4x800 men’s relay in 8:19.50. Team members were Sam Pogue, Andrew Webster, Alex Mason and Miles Migliara.

Migliara finished third in the 600, and Trey Dorsey was sixth. Andrew Webster was sixth in the 1,000, and Jazz Allen and Jayce Thomas took fourth and seventh, respectively, in the 60 meters.

In other field events, Clark Tanksley was third in the high jump, two spots ahead of Thomas. Tylor Albright was fourth and Dominique Jenkins sixth in the long jump.

The Lions also picked up a provisional in the women’s pole vault as sophomore Melanie Bower placed third at a season-best 11-11 3/4. Bower’s mark matched the winning height, but she fell to third on fewest misses. The height ranks 14th in Division II and is the top mark for the MIAA. Sydney Haase and Ashleigh McFarland placed fourth and fifth in the event.

Kaitlyn Belisle finished second in the 3,000 with a season-best 10:19, and Marlee Tegenkamp was fourth.

Jasmin Hughes took third in the 200 at 26.0, missing a provisional by one-tenth of a second.

Kylie Cornman placed seventh in the shot put with a provisional distance of 44-2, and Brittani Reagan posted a provisional in the triple jump of 38-6, finishing fourth.

Reagan also was fifth in the long jump,

“I feel like we’re still a bit rusty coming off Christmas break, but we performed better than last week,” MSSU women’s coach Patty Vavra said. “You could see the improvement. You can see they look sharper each week. Undoubtedly the effort is there and they are working hard. It takes a bit of time.”

The Lions will compete in the Kansas Invitational next Friday.
