Manhattan rallies to trip Ambassadors in OT

From staff reports

— Manhattan Christian overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and knocked off Ozark Christian College 89-85 in overtime Friday night in a Midwest Christian College Conference men’s basketball game at the Ambassadors’ gymnasium.

Sage Ruis’ 3-point goal with 1.6 seconds left in regulation produced a 76-76 tie, and Manhattan Christian outscored the Ambassadors 13-9 in the extra five minutes.

Lonnie Penner poured in 29 points for Manhattan Christian, which shot 57 percent while scoring 50 second-half points after having 26 points on 32 percent shooting in the first half.

Kyle Wicklund and Kendall Wingert scored 18 points apiece, and Wicklund grabbed 13 rebounds for OCC (16-3, 3-1 league). Cameron Woodring, 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and Zac Hill each scored 13 points, and Darrin Chitwood added 10 for OCC.

“We couldn’t maintain the double-digit lead in the second half,” Ambassadors coach Chris Lahm said. “Missed free throws (18-of-31 to Manhattan’s 20-of-24) were costly for us.”
