BOLIVAR, Mo. —
Senior post Kohl Slaughter scored 30 points, and the Webb City Cardinals basketball team cruised to a 63-26 win over Morrisville on Wednesday in the first-round of the Liberator Tournament in Bolivar.
The Cardinals took a 29-13 lead into halftime and limited Morrisville to only 13 more points in the second half.
Nate Brown added 14 points, and John Roderique contributed eight for Webb City. Josh Devine led Morrisville with 14.
Webb City (13-3) will play the winner of today’s game between Aurora and Cassville at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
BLUE VALLEY SW GIRLS 60, JOPLIN 29
NEVADA, Mo. — Blue Valley Southwest began pulling away in the second quarter and handed the Joplin girls a 60-29 loss in the Nevada Lady Tiger Classic.
Joplin trailed just 11-8 after the first, but Blue Valley Southwest outscored the Eagles 17-5 over the next eight minutes to pull away.
Hunter Thomas scored a game-high 16 points to lead Blue Valley Southwest while Brittany Like added nine.
Joplin got 14 from Bailey Taylor. The Eagles (1-15) continue tournament play on Saturday at noon.
McAULEY GIRLS 36, WHEATON 16
The McAuley girls held Wheaton to just four points in the first half and rolled to a 36-16 win on Tuesday night.
The Warriors led 10-0 after the first quarter and 21-4 at halftime.
McAuley was led by Katie Carr’s eight points while Kambry Waggoner added seven and Gabby Moore had six.
Wheaton was led by Crystal Alvarado’s seven points.
LOCKWOOD BOYS 60, COLLEGE HEIGHTS 42
Isaac Spain, a junior, scored 20 points to lead the visiting Tigers to the Spring River Valley Conference win on Tuesday night.
The Tigers expanded a 22-15 halftime lead against College Heights Christian. The Cougars were outscored 15-9 in the third period.
Lockwood also got 13 points from Isaac Lasater and 11 from Ben Schnelle.
Josh Woodmansee had 17 points and Jake Hamilton 10 for College Heights.
