NEOSHO, Mo. —
Crowder, avenging an earlier loss, repelled Iowa Western 67-63 in women’s junior college basketball on Wednesday night in Bob Sneller Gymnasium.
The Lady ’Riders had dropped a 65-64 decision to the Reivers on Jan. 9 in Council Bluffs.
This result left both teams 21-4. Iowa Western is No. 14 in Division I of the NJCAA and Crowder 20th.
Crowder coach Tina Robbins said the Lady ’Riders, who trailed 29-28 at the half, built an 11-point lead in the second half.
“They came right back but they never cut it below 2 points. We hit some big shots when needed and made some defensive stops when needed,” Robbins said.
“They had an advantage in rebounding,” Robbins said. “But we hit eight of 17 treys to their five of 19. We also shot better from the foul line (17 of 28 to 10 of 21).”
Terai Sadler scored 16 points, Camila Lacerda 15, Sarah Sagely 12 and Caprese Marshall 10 for Crowder. Crowder, without Veronica Amos because of sickness, got 19 total rebounds from Sadler and Chloe Nichols.
Lacerda, who had four 3s, added six assists. Seleena Neal joined Sadler and Marshall with two steals.
Iowa Western, which isn’t a member of Region 16 this season, received 15 points from Leah Scott and 11 from Shaw-nee Winningham.
Crowder entertains Arkansas Baptist — it’s “Play for Kay Day” at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
