PITTSBURG, Kan. —
The Pittsburg State Gorillas women’s basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak to earn victory No. 100 for coach Lane Lord.
Pittsburg State’s Lauren Brown registered 19 points, seven rebounds and six blocks as the Gorillas defeated Truman State 63-48 on Thursday night at John Lance Arena.
Brown, who averages 6.7 points, has led the Gorillas in scoring the past two games.
She helped Pittsburg State (13-7 overall, 7-5) dominate inside and on defense.
The Gorillas jumped out to a 31-17 halftime lead by shooting 60.9 percent from the field and limiting the Bulldogs to 16.1 percent. Pittsburg State finished the game with a 57.4 field goal percentage, while Truman was kept to 23.7 percent.
Truman State (16-4, 9-3 MIAA) had won its previous four games.
Amy Briggs led the Bulldogs with 11 points off the bench. Becka McHenry recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Lizzy Jeronimus added 15 points and five rebounds for Pittsburg State.
The Gorillas will be at home against Southwest Baptist at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Pittsburg State men 79, Truman State 75
Rico Pierrevilus recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Gorillas held off Truman State on Thursday night at John Lance Arena.
Pittsburg State (14-6, 7-5 MIAA) trailed by as many as seven points midway through the second half. The Gorillas used a 13-3 run to take the lead. Pittsburg State shot 57.1 percent in the second half after shooting only 38.5 percent in the first half.
Three other Gorillas scored in double figures with A.J. Adams scoring 17 and Kaleb Porter and Marky Nolen contributing 12 points each.
Seth Jackson led Truman State (7-13, 4-8) with 20 points.
Pittsburg State will be at home against Southwest Baptist at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
