NEOSHO, Mo. —
Four Crowder pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout as the No. 18 Roughriders opened their baseball season with a 4-0 victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Tuesday afternoon.
Starter Preston Tarkington allowed only one hit, struck out three batters and walked one in five innings. Jon Woodcock fanned four and gave up two hits in two innings. Cody Jackson yielded two singles before getting a strikeout to end the eighth inning, and Andrew Schwaab gave up a hit and fanned one in the ninth.
Crowder took a 1-0 lead in the third when Matt Burgess doubled and scored on a single by Chris Scroggins.
The Roughriders also scored in the fifth on Cody Althouse’s groundout. Lucas Fedderen doubled home a run in the sixth, and Crowder added another run inthe eighth on a double steal.
NEO starter Marc Berube gave up two runs on four hits in five innings.
Crowder plays a three-game series this weekend against Panola College in Carthage, Texas, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Golden Norsemen (2-2) open their home schedule on Tuesday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Metropolitan Community College-Longview.
