Prep roundup: Webb City wins annual match

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Webb City won six singles matches and two best ball matches during a 9.5-5.5 victory over Carl Junction on Friday afternoon in their annual Papa John’s Bird-Dog Match Play Championships at Briarbrook Golf Course.

Five of the 15 matches — 10 singles, three best ball and two alternate shots — were not decided until the final hole.

The Cardinals had singles victories from Colton Craig, Justin French, Blake Resa, Cameron Snyder, Cory Nichols and Justin Messer. Craig-Alec Goswick and Snyder-Nichols teamed up to win their best ball matches.

Zach Knoblach, Collin Hickman and Trent Dunlop won their singles matches for Carl Junction, and Matt Wilson-Trent Pilgrim prevailed in best ball.

Goswick and the Bulldogs’ Kellen Adams halved their No. 2 singles match, and both alternate shot matches finished all square — Webb City’s Messer-Parker Tankersley vs. Dunlop-Knoblach and Trevor McFarland-Fisher Friend vs. Hickman-Steven Stroud.

The two schools co-host the Bird-Dog Invitational on Monday, starting at 9 a.m.

College Heights 12, Wheaton 8


WHEATON, Mo. — College Heights Christian rallied from a 6-0 deficit and defeated Wheaton in a nonconference game.

Drew Kilgore was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs batted in. Chaffee was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Josh Painter was 2-for-4.

Wheaton took a 6-0 lead with four runs in the first inning and two more in the second inning. The Cougars tied the score with six runs in the fourth inning, then took a 9-8 lead with two runs in the sixth inning. College Heights added three runs in the seventh.

The Cougars (1-1) will face McAuley Catholic at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Soccer

Carl Junction 7, Branson 0


BRANSON, Mo. — Taylor Beck scored three goals, including two in the second half, for Carl Junction.

Beck’s first goal came off an assist by Sydney Solberg six minutes into the match, and Callie Degani added an unassisted goal a minute later.

Goals by Solberg and Katelyn Walter, both assisted by Degani, gave Carl Junction a 4-0 halftime lead.

Solberg, who had two assists, scored in the second half with an assist by Anissa Williams. Rebecca Wilson assisted Beck’s second goal.

Carl Junction (2-1) outshot Branson 17-1. The Bulldogs will face Joplin at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Joplin Athletic Complex.
