CHILLICOTHE, Mo. —
Taylor Eaves went 5-for-5 to headline a 21-hit attack as Joplin downed Chillicothe 10-6 Saturday night in MINK League baseball action.
Eaves and Cody Ball combined to drive in six runs as the Outlaws (6-5, 5-5 MINK) won two of three games in the series. After an open date today, the Outlaws make their second appearance of the season at Wendell Redden Stadium on Monday when they play Clarinda in a doubleheader starting at 6.
Justin Treece contributed four hits for Joplin, and Cody Ball went 3-for-5 with four runs batted in.
Outlaws starter Griffen Gluade struck out six batters, walked two and allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) in five innings. Ethan Matter earned the save with four strikeouts in the last two innings.
Joplin trailed 3-2 after five innings when Eaves led off the sixth inning with a single, raced to third on Kyle Dickens’ single and scored on Conor Smith’s sacrifice fly to left.
Jimmy Obermark then singled to send Dickens to third, and Dickens came home on Zack Steadman’s sacrifice fly to center. Treece’s single and Ben Smith’s double each scored a run to give the Outlaws a 6-3 lead.
Conor Smith’s RBI single in the seventh gave Joplin a 7-3 lead before Chillicothe answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Outlaws then responded with three runs in the eighth.
