Weather forces delay in Bill O'Dell tourney

Rain and wet grounds on Tuesday forced postponement until today of the Carthage Bill O’Dell Tournament at Carl Lewton Stadium.

Today’s schedule is Lamar vs. Mount Vernon at 2 p.m., Carl Junction vs. Seneca at 4:30 and Carthage vs. Monett at 7.

The original schedule called for Lamar and Mount Vernon to play the second game.

Monday’s results: Nevada 8, Webb City 1; Mount Vernon 6, Monett 5; Carthage 9, Lamar 1.

Carl Junction, Nevada, Seneca and Webb City comprise Pool A. Teams in Pool B are Carthage, Mount Vernon, Monett and Lamar.

Games continue on Thursday and Friday with identical starting times. Saturday’s four-game session starts at 9 a.m.

Notes: There’s a dandy pitching pairing tonight with Monett left-hander Aaron Patton vs. Carthage right-hander Drew Bridges. Crowder-bound Patton is 2-0 with a one-hitter, a no-hitter and 40 strikeouts in 21 innings. Missouri State-bound Bridges also is 2-0. Bridges, who bats left, perhaps is known more for his hitting: 6 doubles, 4 home runs and 17 RBI for 6-0 Tigers. Average? “Let’s just say more than .500,” Carthage coach Mike Godfrey said. ... Alex Payne sparked the Nevada offense against Webb City with a three-run double to back right-hander Grant Wolfe. Webb City left the bases loaded four times. ... Daniel Curl had two hits and three RBI and center fielder Kyler Shoff had two hits to spark Mount Vernon. Nick Childress stroked a two-run single for Monett.
