HOLLISTER, Mo. —
Led by Ryan Russell’s top-10 finish, Missouri Southern finished fifth Tuesday in the First Federal Invitational golf tournament, hosted by Henderson State and played at Branson Creek Country Club.
Henderson State won team honors with a two-day total of 586, seven strokes ahead of St. Cloud State. Newman (596), Central Baptist (600) and Missouri Southern (604) completed the top five.
Russell, a junior from Nixa, followed Monday’s first-round 75 with a 1-over-par 72 on Tuesday for a 147 total. Andrew Maier, a junior from Webb City, just missed a top-20 finish with 78-74—152.
The Lions’ other scores: Ben Starkey 76-77—153, Ryan Buerk 76-79—155 and Adam Johnson 79-76—155.
Tyler Koivisto of St. Cloud State was the medalist with two rounds of par for a 142 total, one shot ahead of Henderson State teammates Matt Jennings and Wess Webb.
The Lions return to action next week with an MIAA points tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club.
