Gorillas sign Tulsa boys prep basketball player of year

From staff reports

— Kaleb Porter, the Tulsa Metro Player of the Year, has signed a basketball letter-of-intent with Pittsburg State.

Porter, 5-foot-11 point guard from East Central High School, averaged 20.6 points and 3.5 assists to lead the Cardinals to a second-place finish in the Class 5A state tournament. He scored 75 points in the three state tournament games, including 37 against Ardmore. He scored 15 in the championship game loss to Oklahoma City McGuinness while being double-teamed the entire game.

“Kaleb will help fill a very important void at the point guard position with the graduation of Eric Ray,” Gorillas coach Kevin Muff said in a press release. “He has the instincts, skill set and mental toughness you must have to be a great point guard in our conference.

“We have high expectations for Kaleb but no more than what he expects from himself. He has a strong work ethic on the basketball court, but more importantly an equally strong commitment to his academics.”

Jake Bullard from Vinita and Denton Hays from Jenks, also PSU signees, played on the same AAU team as Porter.
