Emporia State spikers sweep Lions

Emporia State, led by Katie Deutschmann’s eight kills and 17 assists, swept Missouri Southern 3-0 Friday night in an MIAA volleyball match at Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium.

The Hornets (14-6, 4-3 MIAA) won by set scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-10. Sydney Hartman had 18 assists for ESU, and Meg Schwwartz had 15 digs.

Missouri Southern (0-20, 0-9) received 10 kills from freshman Callie Whetstone. Abby Finder and Sydney Potts shared time as setter and had 14 and 10 assists, respectively, and Danielle Severns made 14 games in her first start as libero.

The Lions have a nonconference home match against Arkansas-Fort Smith at 6 p.m. Monday.

OCC tops Faith Baptist

Ozark Christian College slipped past Faith Baptist Bible 23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-16 in a college volleyball match Friday at OCC.

Carrie Page had 11 kills and nine blocks for OCC, while teammate Rickie Duley had 12 kills.
