Joplin’s John Coats and Webb City’s Scott Drake were among the A feature winners during stock car races at the Monett Speedway on Sunday night.
Coats, increasing his points lead in the factory stock class at the 3/8-mile clay track, beat Garrett Essary.
Drake won the USRA B modified main event at the expense of Shawn Strong and Joplin’s Ryan Hendrix. Drake won the second heat over Springfield’s J.C. Morton.
Jesse Stovall and Justin Wells captured main events in USRA modified and Race Brothers DLRA late model, respectively.
Wells bested fellow Aurora driver Shane Essary. Stovall beat Stephen Muilenburg and Carthage’s Jackie Dalton.
Joplin’s Chuck Comer placed sixth in the late model main event.
Completing the A feature winners were Rick McNally (pure stock), Dakota Maggard (Midwest Modz) and Lonnie Muhlbauer (pro-4).
Track owner Randy Mooneyham said the show attracted some 90 cars.
Monett isn’t racing this Sunday night, Mooneyham reminded, but the track has a special late model program scheduled at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
It’s the third leg of the MARS/MLRA Corn Belt Clash. Support classes are B modified, factory stock and pro-4.
The clash is slated to begin on Friday night at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. The second leg is set for Saturday night at Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa.
Admission prices for the special at Monett are $20 and $5 (ages 12-15). A pit pass is $35.
