Robinette leads St. Joseph in rout of Outlaws

Mark Robinette had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in four runs Monday night for St. Joseph in a 16-3 victory against the Joplin Outlaws in a MINK League game at Wendell Redden Stadium.

Robinette, who will be a junior this fall at Oklahoma State, hit a bases-loaded double into the left-field corner that drove in three of the Mustangs’ five runs in the third inning.

The Mustangs, who outhit the Outlaws 20-10, added three runs in the fifth inning on Josh Baker’s two-run single and an RBI single by Maxime Lefevre.

“I told them to forget it, it’s over, it happened,” said Outlaws head coach Rob Vessell. “All we have left are South (Division) opponents and we’re 5-2 against South opponents. If we’re going to make a run at it like we’ve talked about, it starts tomorrow.”

The Outlaws face Nevada at 7 p.m. today at Pittsburg (Kan.).

Left-hander Stanton Jones, who allowed three runs on six hits, went the first five innings and picked up the win. Hasten Freeman, the first of four Outlaws pitchers, took the loss.

Trailing 6-0 in the third inning, the Outlaws scored on singles by Patrick Drake, Zack Steadman and Taylor Eaves sandwiched around a walk to Kyle Dickens. Eaves was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs.

The Outlaws added a run in the fourth inning on a leadoff single by Glaude Griffen, who went to third on an error and scored on catcher Mac Grace’s sacrifice fly.

Joplin added a run in the fifth inning on Eaves’ one-out double into the left-field corner that drove in Kyle Dickens, who had singled. Dickens was 2-for-3 with a double and walked twice.

Third baseman Shane Segoria and catcher Josh Baker each had three hits for the Mustangs.
