Pierce City, Seneca register classic victories

Girls defending champion Seneca finished 2-0 in its pool of the McAuley Catholic Warrior Classic by beating the Warriors 71-33 on Tuesday night.

Pierce City hurdled College Heights 53-26 in the other girls game.

Exeter beat McAuley 58-48 in the boys round-robin portion of the annual classic.

The tourney resumes on Thursday with two games. The girls opener at 6 matches East Newton and Pierce City. Exeter and CHC clash in the boys contest at 7:30.

The Seneca girls, who led 39-9 at the half, received 15 points apiece from Erin Esposito and Jordanne Wright, who had five 3s, and 13 from Victoria Foley.

Sonya Kilongkilong, who tossed in four treys, scored 14 for McAuley.

Pierce City’s girls, who led 30-17 at the half, were paced in scoring by Kaelyn Osborn (12) and Taylor Mettlach (11).

The Exeter boys got 23 points from Zach Wubker, 13 from Justin Brattin and 12 from Brock Sorensen.

Garrett Wagner netted 21 for the Warriors, who trailed 27-24 at the half.

Cardinals beat Panthers

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Hot-shooting Austin Daniel sparked Webb City past St. Mary’s-Colgan 82-58 in a nonconference contest.

Daniel, a junior, sank 14 of 16 shots from the field in scoring 33 points.

Daniel, who also had three steals, was supported by Breckin Williams (19 points, six rebounds, three steals) and Maddy Johnson (10 points, five assists).

For Colgan, Jesse Watts tallied 14 and Andy Farmer 12.

Webb City expanded a 34-25 halftime advantage.

Jasper girls 48, Thomas Jefferson 31

JASPER, Mo. — It was a night to remember for coach Lisa Cropper as she secured her 150th career victory at Jasper when the Eagles downed Thomas Jefferson in a Spring River Valley Conference opener.

An 18-4 run in the first quarter put the Eagles in control en route to a 35-16 halftime lead.

Rachel Bausinger led the Eagles with 11 points.

Thomas Jefferson’s Sally Currence captured game scoring honors with 20 points.
