Joplin reaches soccer district final

WILLARD, Mo. — Joplin advanced to the championship game by defeating Willard 2-0 in the semifinals of the Class 4, District 12 girls soccer tournament on Tuesday night.

The Eagles, 8-12-1, face Parkview for the title at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Ashlea Norman scored Joplin’s first goal off a corner kick by Leighann Craig early in the first half, and Kelly Stringer scored for the Eagles in the second half.

“I thought our girls outworked the other team,” said Joplin head coach Ed Miller. “We had several chances but couldn’t score again in the first half.

Stringer’s goal “was one of the nicest goals we’ve seen all year. She hit it hard,” Miller said. “Our defense did a good job holding them to two shots. With that effort, we get to play for the district championship Thursday.”
