MSSU softball ends season with split at SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Michaela Wood hit a three-run triple in the sixth inning and Missouri Southern defeated Southwest Baptist 4-0 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at SBU.

Southwest Baptist won the first game 1-0 on Caitlyn Cooner’s home run in the sixth inning.

Haley Kinnison (12-15), who pitched a five-hit shutout in the second game, walked three and struck out five. Kacey Ayers (5-14) took the loss for SBU (15-30, 8-18 MIAA) in the last game of the season for both teams.

Alexah Replogle started MSSU’s sixth-inning rally with an infield single. Brooklyn Farrell walked and Jessica Castoe reached first base on a fielder’s choice before Wood’s triple down the right-field line cleared the bases.

The Lions (19-35, 9-17) had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Farrell walked after singles by Shelby Romines, Dawn Grass and Kathryn Goins.

In the first game, Kyra Parker (9-12) shut out the Lions on four hits, including doubles by Chloe Brown and Alexah Replogle.

MSSU’s Sarah Williams (6-15) allowed three hits, walked three and struck out two.

The Lions split their last five doubleheaders of the season.
