Mudcats rack up 21 hits to crush Outlaws

AIRPORT DRIVE, Mo. — The Chillicothe Mudcats used 21 hits to crush the Joplin Outlaws 18-6 on Saturday night at Shaffer Park.

Joplin dropped to 14-29 with the loss and will play its final regular-season game at 7 p.m. today at Nevada.

Outlaws pitcher Zach McNight allowed 10 hits and nine runs over four innings with the Mudcats plating one run in the first, five in the third and three in the fourth. The Mudcats led 9-1 after four innings.

Chillicothe kept pouring it on against Joplin reliever Sheldon Odell, recording eight hits and six runs over 21⁄3 innings pitched. By then, the Mudcats led 15-6.

Chillicothe added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth against Joplin reliever Zach Stewart.

The Mudcats improved to 24-21 overall and 20-21 in the MINK League. They will to finish the regular season Monday at home against the St. Joseph Mustangs.
