The Joplin Globe
Joplin teams look to reclaim the cups when the annual Horton Smith and Ky Laffoon Cup matches are played this weekend in Joplin.
The two 16-man teams from each city will play eight doubles matches today, starting at 11 a.m., and 16 singles matches on Sunday.
The Horton Smith teams play today at Briarbrook Golf Course, and the Ky Laffoon teams (for players ages 50 and older) play at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. Players will switch courses for Sunday’s singles play.
Springfield swept last year’s matches at Twin Oaks and Rivercut in Springfield by scores of 19 1/2-4 1/2 in Horton Smith and 13 1/2-10 1/2 in Ky Laffoon.

Joplin has three victories and a tie during the last six years of Ky Laffoon competition, but Springfield has won the Horton Smith Cup every year since 1994 with the exception of Joplin’s one-point victory two years ago at home.
