ROGERSVILLE, Mo. —
Springfield Greenwood beat Thomas Jefferson 5-1 in a MSHSAA Class 1 team tennis sectional on Saturday.
Said Cavalier coach Tom Brumfield: “We knew playing Greenwood would be tough. Our guys did a great job this season, however.
“We finished 9-4 with our other losses to Joplin, Springfield Central and Forsyth. We also kept our string of district titles alive (reaching nine). We’ve added new players the last two years and they’ve continued the tradition.
“We lose (seniors) Jake Hockman and Alex Oserowsky,” Brumfield said. “But we have a good group coming in.”
The Cavalier victory on Saturday came from Hockman (13-3) at No. 4 singles.
Losing in singles were Oserowsky, Frankie Cascone, Preston Carpenter, John Burnett and Connor Matthews.
Brumfield said that Greenwood, which finished 16-2, lost 5-4 to Warrensburg in the sectional final. Warrensburg, 16-0, defeated Richland (8-5) 5-0 in the first round.
Hockman and Oserowsky will compete in the MSHSAA Individual Championships on Friday and Saturday in Springfield at the Cooper Complex. The Warrensburg team will play on Thursday.
