Brenda Dandy and Eva White combined to shoot a 2-over-par 74 Tuesday morning and win top honors in the seventh annual Joan Thomas Invitational at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club.
The tournament is named in honor of Thomas, who was the best woman golfer in the area in her prime. She won the Women’s Tri-State Championship eight times and was medalist in qualifying play a dozen times. She also was Twin Hills club champion a whopping 26 times.
The tournament used a 6-6-6 format — six holes of scramble, six holes of better ball and six holes of alternate shot.
Robin Purdie-Debra Stanfield and Deb McFarland-Jill West tied for second place with 76s, and Purdie-Stanfield won a scorecard playoff for the runner-up prize.
Peggy Hinde-Maggie Ryan finished fourth with 77.
Champions were crowned in three more flights.
Kathy Dake-Marcia Kreutzer captured First Flight with 83, Susan Haggerty-Kay Harris won Second Flight with 88, and Karen Brown-Pat Gamble took Third Flight with 93.
