CASSVILLE, Mo. —
Roaring River State Park will hold its spring Kids’ Fishing Day on Saturday, May 19. Trout fishing begins at 6:30 a.m. and runs to 8:15 p.m. at the park.
The event is being sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and many businesses and local organizations in the region.
At Kids’ Fishing Day, children age 15 and under can pick up free trout tags at the hatchery office any time on the Friday before the event (May 18) or on Saturday. A portion of the stream in the park will be reserved for youths age 15 and under. Volunteers will be on hand to help out.
Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment. Parents are welcome to help their children, but can use only one pole between the helper and the child. Adults are not allowed to fish by themselves. Free hot dogs, chips, and soda will be available 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During the day, seminars also will be held on fish cleaning, fish cooking, knife sharpening, knot tying, fly tying and fly casting, how to fish Roaring River, and other subjects. A hatchery tour will be held to show how trout are raised. A program on Missouri snakes will feature live specimens.
