SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
Guard Charlie Brown and forward Adam St. Peter scored 18 points apiece as Joplin pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 65-49 victory over Springfield Central on Tuesday night.
The Eagles (12-4) led 27-21 at halftime and 46-39 after three quarters before outscoring the Bulldogs 19-10 in the final eight minutes.
St. Peter’s eight points led the Eagles’ scoring in the fourth period.
“Charlie Brown is the reason St. Peter got his points,” Eagles coach Jeff Williams said. “Central ran and trapped with Charlie, but he picked them apart in the fourth quarter and got the ball to Adam.
“This is a good win, a close ball game until the fourth quarter.”
The Eagles return to Ozark Conference play on Friday night at Rolla.
McAuley boys 65, Wheaton 36
The Warriors, buoyed by a 22-3 scoring advantage in the second quarter, evened their Ozark 7 Conference at 2-2 by hurdling the visiting Bulldogs.
Said McAuley coach Randy Robertson: “We worked the ball inside for several open shots in that second quarter. I was proud of Shaw Robertson. He probably has four or five assists to Cole (Lowry) during the game on layups and short jumpers coming off screens. Lowry played very well.”
The Warriors, 6-10 overall, received 18 points from Lowry, 15 from Adam Robertson and 10 off the bench from Lathan Vlasin.
Tyler Musick scored 12 points for Wheaton. Matt Hickman, who had three 3s, added 11.
“Wheaton was missing some players,” Coach Robertson said. “They were scrappy and never quit.”
Carl Junction boys 78, Monett 47
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Gaige Crockett poured in a season-high 30 points to lead Carl Junction past Monett
Crockett, a junior, hit his one 3-pointer and, according to Carl Junction coach Kyle Williams, scored most of his points in the paint.
“He was doing a great job slashing and getting to the rim,” Williams said. “He caught the ball in the high post a lot and did a great job finishing around the basket.”
Travis Vogt and J. Thomas each added 12 for the Bulldogs (7-7, 2-1 Big 8).
Kyle Woods scored a team-high 15 for Monett.
Purdy boys 54, Thomas Jefferson 22
PURDY, Mo. — Purdy rode a strong defensive effort to a victory over Thomas Jefferson.
Purdy held the Cavaliers to single digits in every quarter, including just four in the second and fourth quarters.
Purdy led 23-10 at halftime.
The Eagles were led by Cameron Perry’s 13 points while Brent Corman added 12.
Thomas Jefferson got 10 points from Justin Brown.
Lockwood girls 57, College Heights 32
Lockwood used three players in double figures to beat College Heights in Joplin.
Madison Couse, Alexis Byrnes and Olivia Finley scored 16, 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Lockwood.
Kirsty Green led College Heights with 19 points, three assists and three steals. Brogan Ward led College Heights in rebounds with six.
College Heights dropped to 4-11 on the season and will travel to face Golden City on Thursday.

Carthage 51, Webb City 21
WEBB CITY, Mo. — Carthage used six pins — including five in the first six matches — to roll past Webb City.
Dakota Jones (106 pounds), Ervin Cancinos (113), River Maggard (126), Seth Logan (132) and Trevor Feagans (138) each pinned their opponents and joined Gage Gartner’s decision at 120 pounds to give Carthage six straight wins to open the match.
Logan Bryan added another Tiger pin at 160 pounds.
Sam Robertson (145) and Tanner Gary (195) registered pins for Webb City.
Carthage improved to 8-1 in duals.
