SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
The Joplin Eagles tennis team wrapped up a perfect run through Ozark Conference play and stayed perfect against district opponents with wins over Glendale and Central on Wednesday at the Cooper Complex.
The Eagles beat Central 6-3 before surviving an improved Glendale squad 5-4.
Joplin improves to 10-1 on the season with a 4-0 final record in league play and a 4-0 mark against district foes. The Eagles wrap up the regular season next Tuesday against Carl Junction.
The Eagles got singles wins from Jeremy Lynn, Andre Childs, Edran Ali and Duncan Ford against Central while Lynn and Frogge teamed for a doubles win, as did Childs and Ali.
Lynn earned a win at No. 1 singles against Glendale but the Eagles didn’t win another singles match until Ali and Ford were victorious at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
The same two doubles teams won to give the Eagles the 5-4 win against a team they beat 9-0 earlier in the season.
“We’re without our No. 2 (singles) player Derek Carter and they have their No. 2 (John Nahon) back after he was out earlier this year,” Joplin coach Sean McWilliams said. “I knew it would be a tough matchup. We needed wins at the top and bottom in singles and we got that.
“I thought Edran’s win at No. 5 singles over their new player from Colorado (Avenir Kovalenko) was big.”

For Carl Junction girls soccer coach Kevin Hauck, the ending of the Bulldogs’ 3-2 win over Republic on Wednesday was worthy of a movie script.
