Webb City Little League preps for Region

Webb City’s 12-year-old Little League team will play the Nebraska state champion at 1 p.m. Friday in pool play at the Little League Baseball Central Region Tournament.

The tournament is held at the Reuben F. Glick Little League Center in Indianapolis.

Webb City won the Missouri state championship Sunday by defeating Northwest Missouri 10-6 at Sunny Jim Park. Webb City, trailing 5-1, tied the score with a four-run fourth inning, then added five runs in the sixth inning.

“I don’t know what it is about this team,” said head coach Jeff Monroe. “We seem to find ourselves behind, but they don’t hang their heads. They just believe. They don’t give up.”

This will be Webb City’s second 12-year-old Little League team to play in Indianapolis this summer. The girls softball team also won a state championship and advanced to the regional.

“All of the boys are real excited,” Monroe said. “I’ve been talking to other coaches who have been there and they all say what a great experience it is.”

Webb City will play the Minnesota champion at 5 p.m. Saturday, the North and South Dakota champion at 4 p.m. Sunday and the Iowa champion at 7 p.m. Monday.
