Webb City head coach Mike Smith said he has been watching the weather forecast all week.
The Cardinals have prepared for a warm, sunny day at the Class 4 sectional track and field meet today at Zizzer Stadium in West Plains.
“We have plenty of fluids to hydrate the kids,” said Smith, whose team won the Class 4 district championship last Saturday at Ozark. “We’ve been talking to them about it all week.”
Webb City is led by its district champion 4x200-meter relay team and sectional qualifiers Alex Christian and John Roderique in the triple jump and long jump.
The Cardinals also are represented by Jarvis Jones in the 100 and 200 meters, Logan Williams in the 110 and 300 hurdles, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Webb City’s girls qualifiers are Courtney Spink in the shot put, Sammi White in the 100 hurdles and the 4x200 relay team.
“I’ve done my job. I got them on the bus,” Smith said. “I just want the kids to do their best.”
Joplin’s girls contingent to the meet includes Miriah Johnson in the high jump and long jump, Holly O’Dell in the pole vault, Makayla Tillman in the 100 and 200, and the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Joplin’s Ryan Davidson qualified in the 1600 along with the 4x200 relay.
In the Class 3 sectional at Marshfield, Carl Junction’s boys entrants are district champion Christian Repsher in the pole vault, Jacob Wall in the shot put and discus, Brendan Berliew in the shot put, Matt Magee in the 200, and the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays.
In the girls’ division, the Bulldogs are led by hurdlers Hope Joyner and Brittney Rose, Joyner in the shot put, Sydney Koch in the 400 and the 4x400 relay team.
