Springfield Raceway hopes to resume stock car racing tonight following last week’s rainout at the quarter-mile dirt track.
The fare will be the No. 2 round of the Transport Graphics-sponsored points chase.
Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps around 6 and racing at 7.
Early points leaders include Wayne Morris of Miami (Okla.) in the street stock class.
Other leaders, all from southwest Missouri, are Brighton’s Erik Maggard (modified), Webb City’s Scott Drake (B modified), Ozark’s Rusty Forrest (Midwest Modz), Ava’s Jack Hamer (pure stock) and Nixa’s Wesley Smith (the inaugural Legends Young Lions),
Defending champions include Carthage’s Jackie Dalton (modified), Webb City’s Trevor Drake (Midwest Modz) and Joplin’s Dave Comer (Legends Cars).
Speedway officials are preparing for the sixth annual John Kuntz Memorial, presented by Andy’s Frozen Custard, on May 12. It will feature the second clash of the season between late model series MARS and MLRA.
Monett Speedway
MONETT, Mo. — Republic’s Brad Looney bested Aurora’s Justin Wells in the late model A feature last Sunday night at the 3/8-mile clay track.
Melvin Pilcher, Springdale, Ark., beat Carthage’s Jackie Dalton and Joplin’s Dairan Hendrix in the modified main event.
Rounding out the main event winners were Forrest Crockett (pure stock), Burl Woods (factory stock), Russell Niehoff (pro-4), Dakota Maggard (Midwest Modz) and Bobby Maggard Jr. (B modified).
Joplin’s John Coats placed third in the factory stock A feature.
Modifieds run tonight
WEST PLAINS, Mo. — The United States Modified Touring Series National Championship Series tonight is scheduled for its first appearance at the West Plains Motor Speedway.
Inclement weather spoiled a previous attempt by the USMTS at the 3/8-mile red clay track.
The 7 p.m. program also will offer crate late model, USRA B modified, super stock and hobby stock classes.
The winner of the modified main event will earn $4,000.
