ANDERSON, Mo. —
Webb City advanced to the Central Regional Little League softball tournament by defeating Lacomo East 10-6 in the Missouri championship game Monday night at Blinzler Complex.
Webb City weathered two rain delays and broke a 6-6 tie with four runs in the sixth inning to capture the state title for girls ages 11-12.
“Last year, the 10-and-under team won state,” said head coach Jamie Allan. “This year, we have three or four returning players who are 11. I felt like it was ours to win because we had the returning champions.”
Webb City advances to the regional tournament at Reuben F. Glick Little League Center in Indianapolis. Webb City will play the Iowa champion at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
“It’s a big deal. We’re all from Webb City, all in the school district,” said Allan, whose players will be in eighth, seventh and sixth grades this fall. “They have just as good a chance as any of the other teams.”
Jade Allan, a right-hander, was the starter and winning pitcher for Webb City in the championship game. Left-hander Kaia Storm is the catcher when she isn’t pitching.
“Everybody knows they have a job to do,” Allan said. “They’re a good team because everybody works together.
“It is what it is. We’ll go and see what happens,” he said. “But we expect to win.”
