No. 1 Frederick blanks Commerce in 2A quarterfinals

FREDERICK, Okla. — Commerce, limited to less than 100 yards of offense, was stymied 42-0 by top-ranked Frederick in a quarterfinal game of the Oklahoma Class 2A prep football playoffs on Friday night.

Frederick, which led 21-0 at the half, improved to 13-0. Commerce finished 11-2.

Said Commerce coach Steve Moss: “Frederick is a very, very good football team full of seniors. We have a lot of juniors. Maybe we can make it to this round — and past — next season.

“It’s good that we win a couple of games and make it here (the quarterfinals),” Moss said. “But I’m sick of it. I’m 0-8 at this round.”

Moss said that Blake Cotton stepped in at quarterback for fellow senior Trevor Flores (injured last week) and performed well for Frederick.

Cotton threw a 23-yard pass to Trey Booker for the Bombers’ first touchdown.

Jessie Webb’s 34-yard run and Cotton’s 37-yard pass to Webb created the halftime advantage for Frederick.

The scoring pass came off a post pattern over the middle, Moss said.

“I believe we reached their 4-yard line late in the second quarter before a turnover,” Moss said,

Frederick TDs in the second half came from Booker (3-yard run), Webb (29 pass from Cotton) and Booker (58 run). The Bombers compiled 382 yards.
