ROGERS, Ark. —
Webb City recovered from a 24-16 halftime deficit and defeated Fort Smith Southside 46-40 Thursday night in the first round of the Arvest Bank Hoopfest.
Logan Williams led a balanced offense in the Cardinals’ season opener with 12 points. Nate Brown had 10 points, and Phoenix Johnson, Jalen Vaden and Kohl Slaughter each had seven points.
Andrew Hindman led Fort Smith Southside with 11 points, including two 3-pointers.
“We played up and down. We had a slow start and were behind at the half,” said Webb City assistant coach Jeremy Butler. “We came back and had a good, solid third quarter and held on at the end. It was a pretty close game throughout.”
The Cardinals took a 29-28 lead by outscoring Southside 13-4 in the third quarter.
Webb City will play either Rogers, Ark. or Mount Vernon at 7 p.m. today.
