From staff reports

— The Joplin Miners and Webb City Post 322 split an American Legion District 15 baseball doubleheader on Wednesday night at Barnes Field.

Webb City won the opener — the seven-inning contest that determines seedings for the postseason tournament — by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh to prevail 10-9.

The Miners scored two or more runs in each inning to win the five-inning second game 13-4.

Joplin (18-5, 3-2) resumes by entertaining District 15 foe Monett at 2 p.m. on Saturday on the Crowder College diamond at Neosho.

“It was a tough loss,” Joplin coach Drew Schulte said of the opener “But give credit to Webb City for playing well.Webb City also took advantage of some sloppiness on our part.”

Post 322 jumped in front 6-0 after two innings, Schulte said. Joplin rallied by scoring 2 runs in the third, 3 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth to trail only 7-6 after five innings.

Webb City scored two runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-6 lead only to have the Miners tie it with three runs in the seventh. But Post 322 answered with the winning tally.

Blake Brown had three hits for Joplin. Tyson Hardee had two doubles and was joined by Chris Leonardi and Rex Whisner with two hits.

Joplin, in the second contest, received two triples and three RBI from Gavin Jones and three hits and two RBI from Leonardi. Brett Graham added two hits and three RBI and Gavin Williamson two hits.

Leonardi hurled into the fifth inning for the victory and fellow right-hander Josh Miller finished.
