MIAMI, Okla. —
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M is looking to fill a spot on its football schedule this fall after Lon Morris College dropped its program.
Lon Morris, a private school located in Jacksonville, Texas, announced Thursday that its board of trustees voted to eliminate all athletic programs immediately.
According to a press release from the school, Lon Morris has experienced negative cash flow in recent years and overextended itself in an attempt to grow, which included adding football in 2010.
Lon Morris was scheduled to play six other games against Southwest Junior College Football Conference teams in addition to NEO.
“We have been aware of the situation developing at Lon Morris for some time,” NEO athletics director and head football coach Dale Patterson said in a release. “We have a couple of options we’re looking at to fill the third game slot that Lon Morris was going to fill at Robertson Field.”
