Baseball Lions sweep Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri Southern’s baseball team swept two more games from Lincoln University on Sunday to remain unbeaten at 8-0 overall, 4-0 MIAA.

Southern outscored the Blue Tigers 21-2 in the doubleheader.

In the first game, the Lions went ahead 1-0 in the third inning before adding three more in the fourth and putting up six runs in the fifth on the way to a 12-1 win.

Skylar Hill, junior right hander, picked up the win for Southern, his first, by throwing five innings of one-run baseball. Hill allowed only two hits, walked three and struck out one batter.

Second baseman Jared Lupo was one of four Lions with two hits on the day, and center fielder Logan Moon had three. Lupo drove in three runs from the leadoff spot.

Right fielder Robbe Ewing and third baseman Brandon Weller both finished with two RBIs as well.

Josh Engler relieved Hill, pitching two innings to secure the win.

In game two, the Lions got another solid effort from their starting pitcher as Drew Noble moved to 2-0 by allowing just one run over seven frames in the 9-1 win.

The MSSU offense tagged two Lincoln pitchers for another strong output. Starter Zach York surrendered five runs, four earned, over his five innings of work before giving way to Joshua Register.

Southern managed an additional four runs off him despite getting only two hits in his three innings on the mound. Four walks, a wild pitch and a passed ball led to a four-run eighth inning after Register had recorded six straight outs against the Lions.

This weekend, Southern will host Fort Hays State in a four-game series at Joe Becker Stadium.

The weekend slate calls for a single nine-inning game on Friday, two seven-inning games Saturday and a nine-inning finale Sunday.
