The Joplin High School girls soccer team won the Neosho Tournament on Saturday with its third straight shutout in the round robin event.
It also finished as champion on its pitch — actually the Junge Field turf — as officials moved the final session of the tourney because of field conditions.
The Eagles stymied Fair Grove 3-0 on Saturday.
Joplin coach Ed Miller said Neosho beat Springfield Hillcrest 1-0 in overtime in Saturday’s opening match. Joplin beat Fair Grove in the clash of Eagles before Hillcrest handled Fair Grove 5-0.
Meghan Matheson’s unassisted goal five minutes into the match opened the scoring for Joplin against Fair Grove.
Morgan Davis, assisted by Chelsea Nimmo, and Melissa England (Jordan McGrane) had goals in the second half for Joplin.
Megan Rowe, who had two saves, posted her third shutout of the tourney. Joplin statistics had it with a 30-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Joplin, 5-6 overall, nipped Neosho 1-0 on Thursday night and Hillcrest 2-0 on Friday night.
The Eagles resume on Monday with a nonconference match at Ozark.
